News » State losing $105 million in online sales taxes
May 15, 2012 The Badger State stands to gain a lot, if the federal government eventually approves a streamlined system for collecting sales taxes on online purchases.
Madison-based retail analyst Doug Johnson says the state loses about $150 million a year, under the current reporting system.
Wisconsinites are supposed to pay sales taxes for online purchases now, but Johnson says hardly anyone does currently, and it's basically unenforceable. |
