The prosecution started calling its witnesses yesterday, in a fraud lawsuit against the Green Bay Catholic Diocese.
Todd and Troy Merryfield were sexually abused by former priest John Feeney in 1978, when the priest was assigned to Saint Nicholas parish in Freedom.
They accuse the diocese of transferring him there, even though officials knew that he'd been accused of having sexual contact with children in the past.
Lawrence Canavera served as a priest with Feeney in the early 70's, and says he heard about a complaint against him.
An attorney for the diocese claims the church had no knowledge of abuse allegations before Feeney was assigned to the Freedom parish. |
