News » DWD claiming job gains in 2011
May 16, 2012 The state's workforce development secretary says the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics was off by more than 50,000 jobs, in its initial estimate of job creation statistics for 2011.
Secretary Reggie Newson says the state created more than 23,000 jobs last year, contrary to the earlier report, showing that the state lost nearly 34,000.
Newson says the unemployment rate, and tax collections also show that the state is adding jobs.
Newson says he can't remember releasing the numbers before the bureau of labor statistics reviews them, but he felt he needed to this time.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is challenging Governor Walker in the June 5recall election. He calls the release a political stunt, and claims the governor's administration is cooking the books. |
