News » DNR working on largest-ever land deal
May 18, 2012 The DNR is moving forward with a deal that would ensure that over 67,000 acres of land in northwest Wisconsin remains available to the public.
DNR Chief Forester Paul DeLong says the property in Douglas, Bayfield, Burnett, and Washburn counties has a lot to offer for swimmers, fishermen, hikers, and trappers.
The state would spend more than $17 million for an easement on the property. That would be the DNR's biggest land deal in Wisconsin history. DeLong says the Lyme Timber Company will still own the land.
The deal prevents any future commercial or recreational developments on the land. |
