News » Walker still has hopes for mining bill
May 18, 2012 Gogebic Taconite pulled out of the state earlier this year, after the Senate failed to pass a mining bill, but Governor Walker hopes a company will still open an iron ore mine in the Ashland area.
He's calling on former Bucyrus CEO Tim Sullivan to meet with conservation leaders and mining experts to come up with a mining bill that could pass the Legislature.
Walker says lawmakers could consider a mining bill by the end of the year.
The mine could create about 700 jobs. |
