News » DWD secretary disputes new job numbers
May 18, 2012 Wisconsin lost 6,200 private sector jobs last month.
That's the finding of a report released yesterday by the state's workforce development department.
But DWD Secretary Reggie Newson says that doesn't tell the whole story. He says those numbers will likely be revised in the future, and the state probably didn't lose that many jobs.
The report also showed that the state's unemployment rate dropped from 6.8 percent in March, to 6.7 percent in April.
DWD officials sent out a report on Wednesday, showing the state gained 23,000 jobs last year. That varies greatly from a federal report that showed the state lost 34,000 jobs last year. Both of those reports could also be revised. |
