News » Authorities release name of fire victim

May 21, 2012
A 35-year-old Neenah woman died in a house fire.

Police say people were trapped on the second-floor of a single family home in the 600 block of Jackson Street early Saturday, and they were able to get to the roof of a three-season porch.

They say the house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters got there around 12:15 a.m.

Elisa Banicki was pronounced dead, and Winnebago County coroner Barry Busby determined she died from smoke inhalation and burns. A man was treated and released from a local hospital.

Fire investigators are looking for the cause of the blaze.
