News » Some clerks waiting for actual absentee ballots
May 22, 2012 Because of the quick turnaround time between the primary and the June 5 recall election, some municipalities haven't received their absentee ballots yet.
People could start voting absentee yesterday, and Reid Magney of the Government Accountability Board says that doesn't mean they have to wait.
He says municipalities are using temporary "proofs," and two poll inspectors will later remake them using the regular ballots. He says they'll both initial the ballots, as a safeguard.
Magney says they've had to use proofs in previous elections, and they haven't been an issue.
Menasha City Clerk Debbie Galeazzi says not everyone is comfortable with that process, and they want to come back once the regular ballots arrive.
Galeazzi says it's important for voters to remember that under the new law...the deadline to vote absentee "in person" is the Friday before the election. |
