News » Officials calling for more foster parents

May 31, 2012
The number of kids in foster care is steadily growing in Calumet and Outagamie counties.

Foster care coordinator Bridget Wirtz says they're trying to find more families to help.

She says right now, there are 88 kids in foster care, and 95 families are certified to take them. Wirtz says the need could exceed the available homes soon, and that's not good for the kids.

Wirtz says foster children are often delayed in their social, emotional, or educational development, and they need foster parents who are patient.

Outagamie and Calumet counties are holding an informational meeting tonight for people who are considering becoming foster parents. It's from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Outagamie County administration building.
