News » Candidates meet in final recall debate
June 1, 2012 The recall election for governor is next Tuesday, and the two candidates faced off in their final debate last night.
Governor Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett talked about the John Doe investigation that's focusing on the Milwaukee County executive's office, when Walker held that position.
Walker says he doesn't believe he's a target. He says he's going along with the request from prosecutors not to comment on it, until they give him the OK.
Walker turned the debate toward Milwaukee's crime statistics. A review from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel showed some crimes weren't classified correctly, so the city's violent crime rate went up last year, instead of down.
Barrett says they'll fix mistakes that he called bureaucratic errors.
On the collective bargaining law, Governor Walker says people aren't talking about that very much, because his reforms are working. Barrett says he would restore the rights of public workers to collectively bargain and organize.
