News » Clerks busy as absentee deadline approaches
June 1, 2012 Local clerks are expecting another busy day today, as absentee voting for the recall election winds down.
People have been able to cast absentee ballots since May 21, and since then municipal clerks offices have been quite busy.
Appleton city clerk Char Peterson says she sees a higher number of people casting early ballots each day, and she expects to see the most today, as the deadline to cast an absentee ballot approaches at 5 p.m. Peterson says the vote total will likely be near the 4,000 mark by then.
Peterson says that's higher than the last election for governor, but less than half of the total from the last presidential election.
She says people have been very civil while waiting in line, and haven't gotten into partisan arguments.
Peterson thinks Appleton will see about 70 percent voter turnout in the recall election. |
