News » UW-System tuition could climb by 5.5%
June 4, 2012 For the sixth straight year, students in the UW-System could see a 5.5 percent tuition increase next year.
System President Kevin Reilly is recommending that hike, and spokesman David Giroux says they're dealing with state budget cuts, and the added revenue would only partially offset them. He says they're losing more than $300 million in funding.
Students at UW-Oshkosh and UW-Green Bay would see a tuition increase of about $330 next year.
The $680 boost at UW-Madison would push tuition and fees above $10,000 a year, for the first time. UW-Milwaukee students would pay about $420 additional, for a total of almost $9,200.
Giroux says there's a difficult balancing act between making sure college is affordable, and that the schools are offering a high-quality education.
UW-Fox Valley students would see an increase of nearly $250 a year.
The Board of Regents will vote on the proposal later this week. |
