News » Walker wants to work together to create jobs
June 6, 2012 The final, unofficial totals from a Senate recall race in southeast Wisconsin show Democrats would overtake the majority in the Senate.
Former Democratic Sen. John Lehman won by nearly 780 votes, out of about 17,000, in his rematch against Republican Sen. Van Wanggaard.
Wanggaard defeated Lehman in the fall of 2010, and he says he'll evaluate whether to ask for a recount, after the board of canvassers reviews the results.
Lehman says people would benefit, if control of the Legislature is split between Democrats and Republicans.
The Democrats would have a one-seat edge in the Senate, until the November election, if the results stand. The Legislature is done with its work for the year, unless there's a special session.
Wanggaard would be the third GOP senator to lose his seat in a recall election since the battle over collective bargaining started. Republicans Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac and Dan Kapanke of La Crosse were recalled last year. |
