News » Healthy living group seeking $450k grant
June 6, 2012 A local group is in the running for a $450,000 grant from the CDC to help kids eat healthier, give people more chances to be active, and cut down on tobacco use.
Community Action for Healthy Living executive director Connie Olson says four of the grants will go to Wisconsin groups.
She says they want to start a farm-to-school program that would bring locally-grown food to school cafeterias in Outagamie and Calumet counties.
Olson says they would also try to open school gymnasiums to evening programs. She says they want to impose new smoke-free restrictions on state-run apartment buildings, as well.
Olson says public support is a key part of the process, and people can vote for the proposal at the Community Action for Healthy Living website.
