News » Appleton still working on chicken rules
June 7, 2012 Rules for raising chickens in Appleton are getting closer to a vote by the city council.
The city's board of public health met yesterday to discuss a way to let that happen, while addressing health concerns, minimizing issues for neighbors, and keeping predators away.
Appleton public health officer Kurt Eggebrecht says the proposed rules would limit people to raising four chickens at a time, and roosters would be banned.
The rules would also regulate how chicken coops are built and maintained.
Eggebrecht says people would be able to raise chickens for eggs, or to eat them.
The public health board could finalize its proposal by mid-July. The city council would then consider it. |
