News » Voices of Men trying to make cultural changes
June 13, 2012 More than 400 Fox Valley men gathered this morning to raise awareness of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and other ways that women are held down in society.
Shannon Kenevan is a leader in the Voices of Men organization. He says a speaker from New York came to the breakfast meeting, to talk about ways that men can address the problem.
Kenevan says the speaker gave an example of a football team...that wrote letters before prom and homecoming, about how they planned to behave with their dates.
Kenevan says they also discussed how saying things like "you throw like a girl" are demeaning, and lead to thoughts of women being worth less than men.
The Fox Valley Voices of Men chapter is in its third year. |
