News » Weather service to send severe weather texts
June 14, 2012 Cell phone providers and the National Weather Service are launching a new tool, to let people know when severe weather is coming, wherever they are.
Gary Austin is a meteorologist at the National Weather Service's Green Bay office. He says within a month, they'll launch an program that automatically sends a text to all cell phones in an area effected by the warning. He says it's a great tool for travelers.
Austin says the service is free, and people don't have to sign up for it. He says the warning texts can be turned off by the cell customer. |
