News » Valley Transit closer to adding new route
June 14, 2012 It looks like Valley Transit could have a new bus route sometime next month.
While the city council still needs to sign off on the proposal, the bus system would start running Route 9 in downtown Appleton and the flats, once a senior apartment building opens in mid-July. The Appleton Housing Authority is moving about 70 people from Washington Place...to a new building in the Eagle Flats development.
Valley Transit spokeswoman Nikki Voeltzke says the route will follow the same loop as the downtown trolley. Because there's already a contract in place for the trolley this year, that will continue to run at its normal times. Voeltzke says the rest of the time, they'll use one of Valley Transit's hybrid buses for the route.
Voeltzke says Outagamie County is providing a $30,000 grant, and Valley Transit is asking for the city of Appleton to chip in $10,000.
The Fox Cities Transit Commission and the city's finance committee unanimously approved the funding yesterday. |
