News » Kratz claims sex, drug addiction led to issues

June 19, 2012
He lost his career over a sexting scandal involving a domestic abuse victim, and a former Calumet County prosecutor is trying to keep his law license.

Longtime District Attorney Ken Kratz is facing a series of misconduct violations, for sexual harassment, and the Office of Lawyer Regulation wants to suspend his license for six months.

Kratz testified at a hearing on the ethics case this morning, in downtown Appleton. He says he's a sex addict, and he was also addicted to prescription drugs at the time. He says he was mixing Zanax, Ambien, and Vicodin, and that took away his filters.

Kratz says that's not an excuse for what he did. But he says he's already paid a heavy price, and he's regained his self-respect.

A referee is hearing the case today, and will make a recommendation to the state Supreme Court on whether Kratz's license should be suspended. The justices will have the final say.
