News » Fewer GOP candidates in fall, voters fatigued
June 20, 2012 A group is keeping an eye on a couple of trends, heading into the fall election season.
Todd Berry of the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance says there are slightly fewer candidates for the fall legislative races, compared to 2010, and the number of Republican candidates fell from 171 that year to 118 this year. He says the number of Democrats increased from 117 to 166.
Berry says that's not too surprising, because two years ago Democrats held majorities in the Legislature, and they didn't have candidates running against incumbents. He says Republicans now have more people in office.
Berry says he's not sure either party has much momentum going into the fall, after this month's recall elections. He says that's because Republicans held onto the governor's mansion in the recalls, but lost control of the Senate.
Berry says voter fatigue from the recalls could also impact turnout in November. |
