News » Bond set for man accused of daughter's death

An Ashwaubenon man made his first court appearance Thursday, on accusations that killed his two-month-old daughter by laying her on her  stomach, on a couch.
Court records say 30-year-old Scott Conklin then left the room, and when he returned, the baby wasn't breathing. A preliminary autopsy report shows the child likely suffocated.
Jody Croker is a lieutenant at the Ashwaubenon public safety department. He says Conklin likely played a role in the child's death.
Brown County prosecutors plan to charge Conklin with first-degree reckless homicide next week. Court records says Conklin made strange comments both before and after the girl's death about a life insurance policy, and clearing out a bank account.
Crocker says officers arrested him Wednesday, after learning that he may be planing to flee to Texas.
Prosecutors asked for a $250,000 bond, saying Conklin is a flight risk. The Brown County court commissioner disagreed, and set bond at $5,000.
Conklin's attorney says his client denies the allegations, is not a flight risk, and will be able to post bond. |
