News » Appleton official likes UV water treatment plan
June 21, 2012 The leader of Appleton's water treatment plant is on board with a recommendation to treat the city's water supply with ultraviolet light.
An advisory committee presented plans to the city council last night, for a $5 million upgrade at the city's water plant, to comply with new water safety standards.
The panel looked at the UV system, and another that would bolster the plant's existing filtration system that uses millions of tiny filters to remove contaminants from the water.
The committee says the UV method is the way to go and city utilities director Chris Shaw agreed.
Shaw says the UV treatment method is also cheaper than the ultra-filtration process. He says if all goes well, the upgrade could happen in 2014 or 2015. |
