News » Prospect Ave. project going back to council
June 13, 2012 A road widening and bridge replacement project is going back to the Appleton city council.
The city's municipal services committee signed off on the plans for a new, wider bridge on Prospect Avenue between State and Walnut streets. They would also expand the traffic lanes to 11-feet wide and add bike lanes.
Appleton public works director Paula Vandehey says people in the neighborhood wanted 10-foot lanes, but that won't work for larger vehicles, like buses, garbage trucks, and delivery vehicles.
Vandehey says the city could also lose more than $1 million in federal funding for the $1.4 million project, if the lanes are narrower than 11 feet.
If the city council approves the plan, construction wouldn't start until 2015 at the earliest. |
