News » Pearl Harbor survivors leaving for Hawaii
June 14, 2012 Twenty Pearl Harbor survivors from the state are flying to Hawaii today, to visit memorials for "the day that will live in infamy."
Drew MacDonald of Old Glory Honor Flight says the veterans on the special "Return to Pearl" trip are between 88 and 92 years old. He says a few of them haven't been back since.
MacDonald says they're getting private tours from the Navy, including at the site of the U.S.S. Arizona.
He says they expect the trip will cost up to $90,000, and donations from companies and the public will cover it.
The group is flying from Chicago today, and everyone is coming back next Tuesday. MacDonald says they'll have a welcome home ceremony at 11:45 a.m. that day, at Candlewood Suites in Appleton. |
