News » DNR study shows economic impact of trees

June 15, 2012
DNR officials hope a study on the impact of trees in the Green Bay metro area shows the importance of city trees.

Urban forestry assistant Kim Miller says publicly owned trees, like those on roadside terraces, have an economic impact of $6.1 million.  She says that includes the amount of stormwater that's kept out of sewers, heating and cooling energy savings, increased property values, improved air quality, and carbon dioxide reduction.

Miller says those trees account for only a small fraction of all of the trees in the metro area, and the impact of all of them would be staggering.

The study focused on Green Bay, Allouez, Ashwaubenon, Bellevue, De Pere, Hobart, and Howard.
