News » Deer farms welcome federal CWD rules
June 12, 2012 Deer farms from across the country will have to comply with new rules from the federal government, to battle chronic wasting disease.
Robert Ehlenfeldt is the state veterinarian for the agriculture department. He says deer farms welcome the rules that require them to test any deer that are over 12 months old when they die.
Ehlenfeldt says the federal rules take effect in August, and they're very similar to ones the state is already enforcing. He says Wisconsin's standards were put in place in 2003, and they've been working well. |
