News » Couple safe after they were stranded abroad
June 12, 2012 A Neenah woman and her boyfriend were stranded for nine days in the New Zealand wilderness, but they're doing well.
Erica Klintworth and her boyfriend, Alec Brown, went camping before final, while participating in a study abroad program through UW-Stevens Point.
Eric Yonke is the university's international program director. He says a snowstorm blew through the area, and blocked their way out.
Yonke says another student noticed they were missing and called authorities on Saturday. Klintworth and Brown were found a short time later.
Yonke says they missed their final exams, but they're going to make them up.
Klintworth and Brown were very hungry, but they were healthy. Yonke says they stayed warm using some nearby hot springs, and they rationed their food. |
