News » Forensic investigators taking class at FVTC

June 13, 2012
Fox Valley Technical College instructors are teaching crime scene investigators evidence gathering techniques as part of a two-week course, and it highlights two new methods that can save departments time and money.

Dan Feucht is helping teach the class.  He says one of the new techniques helps investigators recover shoe prints on dusty surfaces, using a special piece of film.  He says it costs $1 per sheet, and replaces a $650 machine that is typically used to do that work.

The other new tool uses a special compound to collect fingerprints from frozen surfaces.  Feucht says it only takes 10 to 15 minutes, and the old method took several hours.

Feucht says they teach the forensics class every year, and each year they have some new techniques to show the investigators.
