The new activities center on “Water and Air Everywhere!” experiments is designed to give children and their families’ simple hands-on ways to explore science, using materials that often can be found at home.

The experiments include: using balloons to amplify sound and learn about compressed air; proving that warm air needs more room than cold air; bending straws with the human eye; making a penny disappear using water based optical illusions; moving water from one cup to another, using capillary action and no hands; watch how invisible sound waves travel through water and can make a big splash; show that air pressure can hold water in mid-air; and answer the question, “Does air take up space?”

Join more than 700 bikers for a scenic ride through the Fox Cities countryside! Over $40,000 is expected to be raised for the youth mentoring programs at Best Friends of Neenah-Menasha in honor of their 40th Anniversary.

The Best Friends Gourmet Bike Tour features mouth-watering gourmet fare, this ride caters to both the novice and experienced rider. Ride any one of the scenic routes including 4-, 8-, 12-, 25-, 55-, 75- or the 100-mile century route. Helmets are mandatory for all participants and it is suggested to carry a cell phone with you at all times.

The mapped tour provides mechanical assistance, SAG wagons, and rest stops with homemade baked goods, fresh fruit, water, and Gatorade. After the tour, between 11am and 4pm, participants are invited to enjoy a gourmet lunch featuring fresh baked goods, soups, calzones, sub-sandwiches, wraps, and beverages. Alcohol is not permitted on the premises. Shower facilities are available.

Yalanda(17) was killed with her boyfriend in January in a car accident in New London, WI. A memorial fund is currently in the process of being set up as well. This benefit to to help with all the outstanding funeral costs, her burial, and a memorial bench.

Multiple venues in Downtown Appleton
The first Mile of Music Festival is set to take place from Thursday, August 8 to Sunday, August 11, 2013 in Downtown Appleton.
The Handcrafted Artisan Festival brings more than 100 original artists to Appleton, all performing in more than 30 downtown venues. Best of all, most events will be FREE!

Mile of Music seeks to showcase the creative spark Downtown Appleton possesses, while also enhancing that spark. Proceeds from the festival will benefit two creatively-based funds. The festival will help the Appleton Education Foundation fund music opportunities in Appleton Public schools. A new fund, the Creative Downtown Fund will use Mile of Music proceeds to support projects to boost Appleton’s local creative economy and keep the community creativity growing.

Through attendance, volunteer opportunities or donations, you are helping Appleton stay strong, vibrant, and CREATIVE!

All aboard for Rails & Ales at the National Railroad Museum. You may not realize it, but the railroads and beer have been, wel coupled for over a century. In 1877 when Adolphous Busch wanted to take his young brand, Budweiser, to a national market he used railroad refrigerator cars to get the job done. Today, beer and wine still move by rail and there are even a few craft brews with the moniker Rail Yard Ale.

The National Railroad Museum's Rails & Ales will bring the historic trains and contemporary craft beers together for one fun evening in a great venue!

Sample craft beers, wine, and food among the historic trains.
