First I would like to start off by saying I hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend! I hope you went where you wanted to go, got to see who you wanted to see and got some much needed r&r.
This week I am going to talk about a place I went to last week that has one of the best rice bowls I’ve ever encountered and that was at Antojitos Mexicanos in Appleton. I must’ve walked by this place a hundred times since I’ve moved downtown, but have never quite bit the bullet to go there. I’m not sure why. It smells amazing and in the summer they have a really cute little outdoor setup.
Well, one day I decided to go for it and went there for lunch. I was not disappointed. In fact, far from it. I ordered this rice bowl off their lunch menu that comes with rice (duh), beans, arugula, pico de gallo, fresh sliced avocado (none for me though), cheese, sour cream and your choice of topping (veggies, chicken, filet mignon or shrimp). I got the chicken, but I think next time I’m gonna splurge for the filet mignon.
Now here’s what made this lunch special even better. The complimentary chips, salsa and black bean dip they give you are amazing. The chips are thick and crispy. They have a hot salsa that is full of flavor without the heat being overbearing and the black bean dip has chorizo in it. You top that rice bowl off with some chips for crunch as well as some of that hot sauce and BAM, you’ve got yourself a kickin’ meal.
