A fund through the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region is handing out $3.8 million in grants.
The David and Rita Nelson Family Fund picked 27 different projects in the area.
Foundation spokeswoman Megan Mulholland says the family’s interests include parks, waterways, education, health care, and historic preservation.
The Fox Cities Veterans Village project is receiving $500,000. The biggest gift, $1 million, will go toward a new Wisconsin History Museum.
About $350,000 is going toward a Career Exploration and Financial Literacy Education Center, at Fox Valley Technical College. The Fox Locks Visitors Center project will receive $300,000. The City of Kaukauna is getting $209,000 to restore the observation decks at Nelson’s Point, at the 1000 Islands Environmental Center.
The Nelson family donated more than $100 million dollars last year, and put the money into an endowment fund.
