Drivers can now see signs, naming the new interchange with I-41 and Highway 441 for late state Sen. Mike Ellis.
The DOT put up four of them, one for drivers in each direction. State lawmakers decided to call it the “Michael G. Ellis Memorial Interchange.”
His brother, Mark Ellis, found out this morning that the signs were up. He hopped in his car to check them out. He calls it’s “surreal” and “gratifying” to see the signs.
He says it brings back a lot of memories of his brother, and it makes it feel like Mike is still with them.
Mark adds that it’s a real nice legacy for all of the work his brother, and his staff, did over the years.
Mike Ellis spent 44 years in the Legislature, and 32 of them were in the Senate. He was the Senate Majority Leader for several years, and the Senate President toward the end of his time in office.
