Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes is not a college graduate, and he’s answering questions about a claim that he has his diploma.
A candidate questionnaire for a Madison newspaper says he has a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Alabama A&M University. Barnes says a campaign staffer made a mistake.
He says he didn’t finish a course, and he’s talking with the university about what else he needs to do.
A Milwaukee newspaper reported that he graduated, after he twice told the paper, last November, that he “finished” college.
Barnes spokesman Earl Arms says Barnes has always told people he “attended” A&M, rather than graduated.
