A number of Republican lawmakers want to increase funding and access for mental health treatment.
One of their bills would provide more money for nonprofits like the Boys and Girls Club.
State Director Andy Gussert says the math is simple — spend a little now and save in the end. He says if the problem isn’t addressed now they’ll spend money on things like prisons, unemployment, and treating addicts later on.
Another proposal would provide tax breaks to psychiatrists for having offices in the state. The amount would double if they’re in a rural area.
