There were fewer opioid deaths in the state last year.
The Department of Health Services says 838 people died in 2018, and that’s the lowest total since 2015. But hospital emergency room visits for overdoses are up 64 percent, between 2014 and 2018.
The department estimates one in six people in the state were prescribed and used an opioid drug last year.
