Appleton might make it illegal for kids to have e-cigarettes even if they don’t have nicotine in them.
Alderwoman Cathy Spears is asking for the ban on vaping devices for minors. She says she’s heard concerns from schools. She says teachers will approach a student and the child will just claim it doesn’t have nicotine.
Spears says Grand Chute, Little Chute, and Kaukauna have a similar rule in place. She would like to see police give minors a warning the first time they’re caught and tickets after that.
The city’s safety and licensing committee is on board with the idea. The city council will take it up next Wednesday.
