Menasha wants Canadian National Railroad to fix three railroad crossings in the city.
Public Works Director Joel Radomski says it feels like the bottom of your car is bottoming out because of a loose rail at the Racine Street crossing. He thinks the one at De Pere Street is also a rough one, but the worst crossing is on Appleton Street. Radomski says there are “humps and bumps everywhere.”
The city council agreed this week to try to force the issue with the railroad, by formally asking for the repairs.
The railroad now has 30 days to talk with city staff about the issues. If nothing is done, the city can appeal to the state railroad commissioner. He believes that process can take six to nine months.
