More streetlights in Appleton now have LED bulbs.
The city has been working for years to convert them, to save money on electricity.
Public Works Director Paula Vandehey says they’ve worked with We Energies on the lights that the city leases from the utility. She says about 20 percent of the 7,500 are done, and they’ve been setting aside enough money to do about 400 more every year.
Vandehey says they’ve been able to switch about 88 percent of the more than 1,200 lights the city owns. She estimates the city saves about $65,000 a year by having LED bulbs in the city-owned lights.
