A U.S. Senator from Wisconsin wants to set national standards for what are known as PFAS.
They’re a chemical found in firefighting foam. Tyco Fire Products in Marinette used to test it and some got into the groundwater.
Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin of Madison talked with Marinette leaders Tuesday about contamination in the county. She says because we’re still learning about the dangers around PFAS, there should be an urgency to create rules at a federal level.
Baldwin is working on a bill to have the EPA to create a national standard for safe drinking water when it comes to PFAS. She thinks the CDC should also do more research into the potential health affects.
