A poll shows strong support in the state for universal background checks on gun sales and a “red flag” law.
Marquette University Law School Poll Director Charles Franklin says 80 percent want them and 18 percent are opposed. He says 75 percent of people with a gun in their house support them. He says 88 percent with no gun in the home do. He says both are huge majorities, so support for background checks doesn’t really depend on gun ownership.
On “red flag” laws 81 percent back them as long as a judge approves an order to take guns away from someone. 12 percent were opposed and eight percent didn’t know. Franklin says the numbers are very similar no matter if someone has a gun in the house.
