Brown County’s proposal to build a $43 million secure residential care center for children and youth is going to the state’s Joint Finance Committee.
Milwaukee, Racine and Dane counties are submitting similar proposals for an $80 million state grant.
Brown County Supervisor Erik Hoyer says the committee will have to decide if they’re going to offer more in order to build the four proposed facilities.
Five counties in northeast Wisconsin submitted letters of support for Brown County’s proposal.
The state is offering the grant money so the Lincoln Hills-Copper Lake juveniles faculties can be closed.
