The threat of rain didn’t stop kids and their parents from sitting along College Avenue for Appleton’s Christmas Parade Tuesday night.
Mayor Tim Hanna believes the sprinkles that were falling at times didn’t drive people away.
He says he couldn’t help but think of the high school students from bands around northeast Wisconsin, and how cool it must have been for them to be able to participate. He says he appreciates that they come from places like Peshtigo, and he hopes that continues.
Hanna says he marched in the parade three times while he was in high school. It was Hanna’s final parade as the city’s mayor.
It was the 49th annual parade. It’s the largest nighttime parade in the Midwest.
There were three award-winning floats or trucks in the parade.
Appleton Downtown Incorporated’s Djuanna Hugdahl says Alliance Industries finished first in the commercial category with the train from “The Polar Express” movie.
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin had the best non-commercial float with a snowglobe that shot out snow.
Murphy Concrete won the children’s award with a concrete mixer that was decorated with lights.
