A new law expands the rules for bringing banned items into jails and prisons.
Sen. Andre Jacque says it closes a loophole. The De Pere Republican says prosecutors used to have to prove an inmate intended to give the items to another inmate to use. Now, inmates can face criminal charges for having banned items in their possession.
Jacque says the list includes handcuff keys, things that can be made into weapons, and cell phones that can be used to harass victims or sell drugs.
Governor Evers signed the bill into law.
