The special session on policing didn’t last long today.
Majority Republicans in the Assembly and Senate took the formal steps of opening the session, and they went into recess in less than 30 seconds. That met the requirements of state law.
Almost no lawmakers were there.
Governor Evers called the special session, in hopes the Legislature would take up a series of bills he’s proposing.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says over the coming months, they’ll work through a number of ideas. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is creating a task force.
Evers says people want action and results now, and not another task force or more delays.
