Oshkosh school staff are directed to use the name or pronoun of a student’s choice–without getting parental consent first. The district has changed its administrative guideline that had previously required parents to give permission for their child to go by a name or a pronoun that differed from their gender at birth. Students would still have to provide legal documentation in order to change their name in the district’s computer system. A spokesperson for the Oshkosh School District says someone will be available to comment on this story Friday after parents have been notified.
