Appleton Area Schools will operate under a $231,776,669 budget for the 2021-2022 school year. The board of education voted unanimously in favor of the spending plan, which is a 4.35-percent spending increase from last year. Most property owners will see a 30-cent drop in the levy rate to $7.66 per thousand dollars of assessed value. Chief Financial Officer Greg Hartjes says that puts Appleton in an enviable position statewide.
“When you compare it to the state average, you can see that we’re over $1.00 less than the tax rate average across our state,” Hartjes said. “So we feel we’re being very fiscally responsible with the tax rate for our taxpayers.”
The district says the budget maintains class sizes, staffing and curricular programming.
