The Grammy nominations are slowly coming out and Jon Batiste, the New Orleans jazz musician and current band leader of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, led with 11 Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year (We Are) and Record of the Year (“Freedom”). Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R. each picked up eight nominations, followed by Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo with seven each.
The 64th Grammys will recognize the best albums, songs, and artists during the eligibility period of September 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021. In an effort to make the awards more transparent, this is the first time that there was no secret review committee making decisions. Instead, only the voting members of the Recording Academy contributed to the final nominations. General field categories have also been expanded to 10 from 8.
