A group of area Republican lawmakers came to Kaukauna calling for public support for a package of bills to aid local law enforcement agencies. The seven bill Law Enforcement Support Package would provide $25-million state wide to retain current officers, attract out-of-state officers and reimburse law enforcement agencies for training costs. Appleton Police Chief Todd Thomas says such support is needed to show current and potential officers that their community is behind them.
Menasha Police Chief Tim Styka says his department has not increased as the city has grown. He says he can’t follow private sector practices to deal with the shortage of officers.
The Law Enforcement Support Package would be paid through American Rescue Plan Act money.
