Final numbers are in on the 2022 sturgeon spearing season. A total of 1,518 fish were harvested on Lake Winnebago and the upriver lakes–that is down about 300 from the 2021 season. Upriver spearing lasted just four days–the shortest season since 2018. The season on the big lake went the full 16-days. The largest sturgeon speared this year was a 174.8 pounder taken by Jared Guelig on February 17th. About nine-point-seven percent of license purchasers got a sturgeon this year.
