A researcher with UW-Oshkosh thinks company officials at Georgia-Pacific determined there were more efficient and cost effective facilities elsewhere.
Management announced Wednesday the Day Street plant in Green Bay would close in stages. Research Jeff Sachse thinks aging equipment at the more than century old building was a factor. He also thinks supply chain issues and the availability of soft pulp, the key ingredient in tissue, was a factor.
Sachse has been working for over a year and a half with the Wisconsin Paper Council to develop a ten year outlook and strategic framework for the industry.
